The following are figures Brainerd School District administrators use in their presentation to area groups about the operating levy referendum:
$987 - the proposed new referendum per pupil that Brainerd School Districts will vote on Nov. 6. The current operating levy of $199.24 per pupil would be revoked and replaced with $987 per pupil, a net change of $786.76.
$5.5 million - the amount needed to be cut from the district's budget in 2008 if the referendum fails.
750 - the number of square miles covered by the district, a large geographic area compared to other school districts its student enrollment size. This creates increased transportation costs.
$49 million - the district's annual payroll.
$98 million - the district's total annual economic impact in the Brainerd lakes community.
55 - the percentage of growth projected in Crow Wing County from 2000 to 2025. Cass County is expected to grow 58 percent during this time.
28 - the district's ranking in size compared to other districts in the state. While the school district is 28th largest in the state, it ranks 86th in average teacher salaries and 161st in district administrative salaries.
88 - the percentage of school districts in the state that have operating levies.
$675 - state average operating levy.
$848 - average operating levies in school district's of comparable size.
42 - teaching positions cut in the past four years, mostly through attrition.
65-75 - teaching positions that will be eliminated next year if the levy referendum fails.
300 - the number of students gained by the district through open enrollment from nearby districts.
50-100 - the number of students projected to be lost through open enrollment to nearby districts if the referendum fails.
75 - the percentage of Brainerd School District voters who do not have a child enrolled in the district.
