Coping with Grief

"Coping with Grief" sessions will start from 1-3 p.m. beginning Wednesday at St. Joseph's Medical Center. There will be a total of eight sessions, running every other Wednesday. For more information, call (218) 828-7442. The sessions are sponsored by St. Joseph's Home Care and Hospice.

5th annual community health symposium

"Mental Health: Where do we go from here?" is the topic for the 5th annual community health symposium from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Thursday at Lakewood Evangelical Free Church, Highway 210 West, Baxter.

Two nationally acclaimed speakers, three area psychiatrists and a panel of distinguished guests will discuss current issues in mental health. Cost: $15 which includes continental breakfast and lunch. Call 828-7641 for more information and a brochure.

"Drugs and Alcohol in the Workplace"

In honor of Disability Awareness Month, the Minnesota WorkForce Center and Job Service Employer Committee (JSEC) will be sponsoring a half-day informational seminar titled "Drugs and Alcohol in the Workplace" on Oct. 10 at the Camp Ripley Theatre.

Beverly Nelsen, R.N., will provide information to assist employers in recognizing signs of use, understanding the MN Drug and Alcohol Testing in the Workplace Act (DATWA) and understanding how to write drug and alcohol policies. Ms. Nelsen has been employed in the Education/Occupational Health Department of Lakewood Health System for over 20 years and has supervised the Greater Staples Hospital Drug and Alcohol Testing Consortium since its inception in 1996.

Senior dances

There will be a senior dance at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Brainerd Legion. Music by the Hornets.

There will be a senior dance at 1 p.m. Friday at Pequot Senior Center. Music by Roman and Don.

There will be a senior dance at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Motley 10-High. Music by the Hornets.

Zone 1 meeting

The Zone 1 meeting will be held at the Paul Bunyan Sports Bar and Grille in Baxter on Tuesday. Registration and social hour will begin at 6 p.m. Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. with a meeting to follow. Meal choices are chicken kiev, 6 ounce sirloin or cod for $10.95 or prime rib for $11.95. Please RSVP by calling Dick Stebbins at 320-692-4373.

Brainerd BNSF Veterans

The Brainerd BNSF Veterans will have a pizza party at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Brainerd VFW Club. The regular monthly meeting will follow. Coffee host and hostesses are Ray and Vanette Esperson, Mayme Kramer and Ann Huseby.

Alpha Delta Kappa

Alpha Delta Kappa recently met at Northwind Grill for a dinner meeting. Jean Collins, Bonnie Cumberland, Bea Jondahl and Sherri Delahunt showed pictures and talked about the National Convention in Boston.

Sandy Cowell was honored as teacher of excellence.

The Round the Lakes luncheon will held in Little Falls on Oct. 13.

Pequot Lakes Women's Club

The monthly meeting of the Pequot Lakes Women's Club will be 10 a.m. Oct. 4 at the Pequot Lakes City Hall.

Moose activities

Build your own taco with nine different toppings, 5:30 p.m. Monday. $1 each. Beer in a glass, $1. Blood Marys, $2. Ted and Ron's famous turkeys, club opens at 11 a.m. Vikings kickoff at noon Sunday.

Degree of Honor

Members will meet at noon Wednesday at Bonanza for lunch. Meeting will follow at Woodland Acres.

Bologna feed

Bologna feed will be 4:30-7 p.m. Saturday at the Eagles Club.

Chili feed

There will be a chili feed from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at the Merrifield Marathon building. Chili, corn bread and crackers, veggies, beverage, bars and cookies. $5 adults, $2.50 for children under 12. Hunters welcome.

A.A.U.W.

The American Association of University Women will be having a fall program meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at the First Congregational Church, 415 Juniper Street. The Board will provide the evening meal. The program for the night will be Role of Women in India by Vardhini Mohan, CLC instructor from India.

American Legion Auxiliary luncheon

The American Legion Auxiliary luncheon will be Thursday at the Legion club. Choice of vegetable or chicken soup, egg salad or ham salad sandwich, beverage and coffee. Call 829-2249.

Brainerd Area Zonta

The Brainerd Area Zonta Club will be having its meeting at noon Wednesday at the Sawmill Inn. This month's program will be a panel discussion about violence in the workplace and violence in the schools.

Crow Wing County Genealogy Society to meet

The quarterly meeting of the Crow Wing County Genealogy Society will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the meeting room at the Brainerd Public Library.

Aitkin Riverboat Reelers

The Aitkin Riverboat Reelers will dance Plus on Sept. 30. Mike McGuire will be the caller. No potluck.

Nisswa American Legion

Brainerd Women's Bowling fall meeting

The Brainerd Women's regular and subs bowler's fall meeting will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Brainerd Moose Lodge. Rules for the city tournament and state convention will be discussed and voted on. Please attend this important meeting. Coffee and bars will be served.
