MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A Minneapolis woman was charged Friday with driving her minivan into a 12-year-old boy on a sidewalk as he was watching a fight between four other children.

Minda L. Washington, 33, was charged with first-degree assault.

Chaz A. Eagle was in serious condition Friday with a skull fracture and several broken bones at Hennepin County Medical Center.

According to a criminal complaint, Washington's minivan was seen heading directly toward Eagle before he was hit about noon Thursday.

Washington is the mother of two boys involved in the fight, the complaint said.

Eagle's sister told authorities she and her brother were on the sidewalk watching the fight when she saw a blue minivan drive onto the sidewalk and hit the boy. The minivan backed over Eagle before fleeing.

The girl said she recognized the driver as the mother of two of the boys fighting. Other witnesses gave a similar account.

Two witnesses followed the minivan and identified Washington to police when she stopped at an intersection.

Washington was being held in the Hennepin County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
