Alphone P. Cole

AITKIN -- Alphone "Al" P. Cole, 92, Aitkin, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at the Riverwood Extended Care Center in Aitkin.

He was born Aug. 25, 1909, in Buxton, N.D., to John and Ellen (Larsen) Cole. He graduated from Buxton High School and Mayville (N.D.) State Teachers College. He was a teacher, superintendent and coach at schools in New Rockford, N.D., and Elgin, N.D. He married Eleanore Legrid on Aug. 14, 1936, in Appleton. He served with the Army in World War II, then worked for the Veterans Affairs Administration and the Social Security Administration. After retirement he lived in Moorhead and Sun City, Ariz. He married Irene Dahl in 1988. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead.

Survivors include three daughters, Janet Peterson, Aitkin, Marilyn Schule, Great Falls, Mont., and Ellie Cole, Kirkland, Wash.; a sister, Eleanor Polsfuss, San Francisco; eight grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

His first wife, Eleanore, and his second wife, Irene, died earlier.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church in Aitkin with the Rev. Lance E. Isaacson officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Moorhead.

Friends may call one hour before services Monday at the church.

Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
