Cardinals claim Mid-State title

PARK RAPIDS - The Staples-Motley Cardinals captured five Mid-State Conference titles on their way to the team title Saturday.

Abby Edin at No. 1 singles and Mikayla Wing at No. 3 singles were individual winners, while the Cardinals swept all three doubles divisions for the four-point win over Pequot Lakes.

Skye Coughlin-Emma Koskinemi won at No. 1 doubles. Ashley Lisson-Caitlin Robinson were the winning No. 2 team and Savanna Hill-Annie Gillespie won at No. 3 doubles.

Pequot's Angela Villella improved to 20-2 as she won the No. 2 singles title and Tricia Villella won at No. 4 singles.

"I'm pleased with how we competed," said Pequot head coach Monica Sergent. "Staples is a very strong team and to stick with them as close as we did, I was really happy with how the girls played."
