20 years ago (1989)

Members of the Minnesota Transportation Study Board were told that there's nothing wrong with the state's transportation system that money can't fix. But they already knew that. Still, 50 folks showed up here at a hearing to tell them just that.

30 years ago (1979)

(Photos) Kevin Koep of Nisswa landed this 5-0 largemouth bass on North Long Lake using a Northland jig and shiner. Ben Carpenter of Nebraska was guided by Hank Ebert to this 5-12 largemouth bass out of Gull Lake on a Lindy Shad.

40 years ago (1969)

A series of cabin break-ins were reported over the weekend, with telephones, liquor, tools and several outboard motors stolen. Included were two cabins on Pelican, three on Smith Lake, one on Borden Lake and one on South Long Lake.

60 years ago (1949)

Indications that an inadequate system of accounting was employed by the Brainerd School District were revealed today following an audit by the state public examiner. The superintendent and board are already taking steps to rectify the problems.

80 years ago (1929)

Final disposition of an $800,000 National Guard training camp was announced today by state adjutant general, E.A. Walsh. The camp will consist of 2,200 acres and will be located five miles north of Little Falls, replacing the current camp at Lake City.

100 years ago (1909)

A wood sawing outfit belonging to the Bourquins was dynamited Saturday night. They claim that the work was done by some enemy. The engine of the machine was not damaged but the frame was broken to an expense of $300.
