For 10 Brainerd High School students, one course has moved out of the classroom and into the horse barn. The students, all girls, are learning about "horse care" this fall at the school districts' 80 acre farm. Instructor is Mark Haglin.

The Baxter City Council adopted a budget. The budget set for the coming year totals $196,799. Council members said that the levy will remain the same.

Rice Lake - Part of which is in Brainerd's backyard - is one of the best fishing lakes in the area, a survey by the conservation department has revealed.

Eager youngsters crowd forward at the Lincoln School to have illuminating Scotch Lite applied to their bicycles. The program is in observance of National Safety Week.

Con O'Brien and J.M. Quinn were in the Twin Cities and while there negotiated a deal whereby the former became owner of about 2,000,000 feet of standing timber in the Stony Brook area. Logs will be driven down the Gull River this winter.
