Storm causes power outages
Strong winds moving through the area are causing numerous power outages for Crow Wing Power. As of 1 p.m. about 6,000 members of Crow Wing Power were without power due to downed power lines and fallen trees.

MALMO - A 76-year-old Aitkin man died Monday after being pinned under an overturned farm tractor, the Aitkin County Sheriff's Department reported.
Renowned artist brings children's concert to lakes area
Best known in the United States for the "Belly Button" song, international artist and Order of Canada award winner Heather Bishop will perform a children's concert during her short stay in the Brainerd lakes area next week.

Maybe the Brainerd Dispatch should become a "public" newspaper. That was the reaction at this newspaper when we received word that our neighbor and friendly news rival, Lakeland Public Television, received a $398,436 federal grant to help station convert to high definition digital technology.
