BAXTER -- Robert "Rob" Hamilton, of Baxter, formerly of the Round Lake area, died Sunday morning at home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Park United Methodist Church in Brainerd with Pastor Rory Swenson officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery immediately following services. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter and for one hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Research for Amyliodosis. Robert "Rob" Charles Hamilton was born on Dec. 11, 1937, in Onamia, Minn., the son of Marvin and Mildred (VanVleet) Hamilton. He was called from this life on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, at home in Baxter following a battle with a rare blood disorder. He attained the age of 67 years, nine months and seven days.
Rob grew up on the family farm near Onamia graduating from Onamia High School in 1956. After his schooling he worked for several different places including the State of Minnesota Highway Department surveying crew. In the fall of 1959 he entered the U.S. Army Reserve. On April 14, 1960, he was united in marriage to Jeannine Mayo in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., while he was finishing his Army training. To this union four children were born. Rob and Jeannine were married a second time on Sept. 13, 2005.
After his military training the couple returned to Brainerd where he began working for Brainerd Cleaners and for the Crow Wing County Engineering Department as a surveyor. He was employed by Crow Wing County for 27 years before retiring nine years ago. Rob was a member of the Brainerd American Legion Post, the RF Club, the Eagles Club and was a mascot for the OFF Club. Among the things he enjoyed were golf, karaoke, deer hunting, playing cards, keno and attending events his grandchildren were in.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin. Rob is mourned in passing by his wife, Jeannine, of Baxter; children, Julie (Gene) Squires, of Pillager, Jody (Dorinda) Hamilton, of Brainerd; JoAnn Veith, of Baxter, and Jeff Hamilton and partner, David Calfee, of Minneapolis; five grandchildren, Dillon, Corey, Hannah, Jessika and Jourdan; his mother, Mildred Hamilton, of Brainerd; brothers and sisters, Betty, Mrs. Lyle Mattson, of Brainerd, Donald (Sylvia) Hamilton, of Wahkon, Harold (Diana) Hamilton, of Onamia, Vivian Miller, of Brainerd, and Douglas (Linda) Hamilton, of Pillager.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
