Wadena police respond to burglary
Several sets of tires were stolen. Just after 10 a.m. officers learned an individual was trying to sell matching tires at Heartland Tire on Highway 10. The suspect was interviewed and the vehicle impounded. With information from the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Department, investigating officers recovered evidence linking suspects to a burglary at Deer Creek Express.
Stolen items recovered; arrests made
A four-wheel all-terrain vehicle, chain saw, battery charger and other items valued at $4,415 were stolen from a Stowe Prairie residence in Todd County late Wednesday or early Thursday.

Peace group remembers troops who have died
Behind a luminary peace sign, members of the Brainerd Area Coalition for Peace read the names of the 1,000-plus U.S. troops who have been killed in Iraq Friday night at the fountain at Gregory Park in Brainerd. A candlelight march proceeded along Washington Street as the BACP members continued to read the names of the dead.

He was a retired Honeywell Machinist with 33 years of service. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood. He is survived by his wife Elaine; mother-in-law, Ellen Thompson, of Columbia Heights; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Duane Weigel, of Blaine, Kathey and Darrell Roden, of Champlin, Minn., and Barbara and John Ringler, of Andover, Minn.; three sisters, Mary Perry, Sandra Turner and Bonita Aitkins; nine grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

When Conservation Officer John Hunt of Maplewood investigated a tip that aquatic vegetation was being illegally removed from Orchard Lake near Lakeville he found broken cattail stumps and a plant- covered anchor on the ground. Hunt photographed the shoreline then left a note on the door of lakeshore owner to call him.

Shoreline alterations: what you need to know
Lakeshore owners who are considering projects that would alter their shoreline or lake bottom should review the DNR Division of Waters permit requirements before work begins. Certain types of alterations below the ordinary high water level of public waters or public waters wetlands require an individual Public Waters Work Permit. Activities that fall under this requirement include excavating, dredging, filling, draining or the placement of structures.
