STAPLES -- The Staples Area Men's Chorus will recruit members at a rehearsal next week, a chorus spokesman said in a news release.
"Men interested in becoming members of the chorus are welcome to attend this rehearsal," starting at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Staples Motley High School choir room, the release said.
The group has been part of the area's cultural life for more than 60 years, drawing members from throughout central Minnesota, the release said.
"They perform a wide range of musical styles, from music of the great masters to folk tunes, spirituals, show tunes and pop standards," the release added.
Directed by Stan Carlson, the Staples Motley High School choral director from 1965 to 1999, the men's chorus recently won the bronze medal in its class at the Great American Choral Festival, the release said.
Carlson was named choral director of the year in 1990 by the American Choral Directors Association of Minnesota and music educator of the year in 1998 by the Minnesota Music Educators Association.
For more information on the rehearsal, call (218) 894-1899 or write to the chorus at P.O. Box 114, Staples, MN 56479.
