Initially wasn't Norm Coleman going to run for governor? Why didn't he? Did someone change his mind? Well, I would like to point out to Mr. Coleman and his Republican followers, that we Democrats, and others tried and succeeded to persuade Sen. Wellstone to run again, as we needed someone to filibuster some of the Geo. W. crazy programs so they wouldn't be railroaded into law! In which he did, and will continue to do so!
Thank God he decided to run again! If you want to call that a lie, fine, but I could also list many lies of Geo. W. and his party!
In response to a writer's response to a Cal Thomas article on creation vs. evolutionary theory.
Recent findings on the cutting edge of many disciplines like astronomy, astrophysics, biochemistry, and genetics such as an expanding non steady state universe, the anthropic principle as well as recent DNA and gnome investigations are challenging the "old thinking."
The classic theory of Darwinian evolution being taught as "science" in schools is now being debunked every day.
Questions are coming not from religious fundamentalists but from some of the most esteemed secular scientists in their individual fields--many of whom are agnostic, atheist or non-personal theists:
Paul Grasse, French Academy of Science--"No matter how numerous they may be, mutations do not produce any kind of evolution."
Michael Denton, Molecular Biologist--"The failure to validate the Darwinian model has implications which reach far beyond biology."
Hubert Yokey, Theorist -- "One must conclude that contrary to the established and current wisdom, a scenario describing the genesis of life on earth by chance and natural causes which can be accepted on the basis of fact and not faith has not yet been written."
Stephen Hawkings, Astro-Physicist and self-described agnostic--"It would be very difficult to explain why the universe should have begun in just this way, except as the act of a God who intended to create beings like us."
Richard Dawkins, biologist--a self professed atheist, "The only alternative explanation of the sudden appearance of so many complex animal types in the Cambrian era is divine creation--and we reject this alternative."
This list could go on and on....and the implication is obvious.
If what is being taught in school is not scientifically valid today--what can possibly be wrong with flinging the doors wide open to study and consider all the options?

As I approach my 30th birthday I find that more and more I am enjoying the taste of crow.
Last week I wrote a letter to this paper titled "Practice what you preach" where in, I made the tragic mistake of saying things that hurt a very dear friend of mine. Well, when you are an idiot publicly, then you ought to apologize publicly. So, to the author of the Sept. 5 Open Forum letter titled, "Bob should apologize," I am sorry. I should never have opened my big mouth and now regret it.
To the readers of The Brainerd Daily Dispatch, also please accept my apology, making you endure my childish behavior.
