AITKIN -- Bill Hermel, 99, Aitkin, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin.
He was born Sept. 15, 1903, in Waterville to Adolph and Emma (Schmidt) Hermel. They moved to Wahkon. He graduated from Wahkon School and attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. He married Florence Hokana on June 14, 1949, in Guelph, N.D. He played trumpet in orchestras and often played background music for silent movies. He owned and operated an office machine business for more than 60 years in North Dakota and Minnesota. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Aitkin.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Glenn, Minneapolis, Kent, Onamia, and Ed, Cohasset; two daughters, Shirley Berkner, Roseville, and Shelly Ackley, Aitkin; and 12 grandchildren.
His brothers and sisters, Fred, Ida Vanguilder, Kate Kaupa-Blastervold, Lydia Fisher, Nora Fritz, Augusta Brooks and Emma Wilkes, died earlier.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Aitkin. Burial will be in Foster Cemetery in Wahkon.
Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
