(Editor's note: Herb and Lois Thiesse of rural Brainerd received the following letter from friends he met when visiting the former Soviet Union in 1992.)
Sept. 12, 2001
Dear Herb and Lois!
Yesterday I tried to phone you but your telephone was busy or nobody answered. I'm writing up this to express my condolences in connection with the terrorism attacks in New York and Washington. We are all shocked and indignant. It is the most awful crime against mankind. This is not only your tragedy, it's an international disaster. It's unbelievable that human beings could do that. They are not people! I have no words to express our indignation. You will be in our prayers. God bless you!
P.S. Our TV works non-stop and broadcasts the latest events from America. We are so sorry for those innocent people! Let them be peaceful in the heaven!
