WALKER -- Rajala Construction of Cohasset was the low bidder to rebuild County State Aid Highway 4 by Boy River for $1,079,703.98.
Cass County Engineer David Enblom said the low bid was 15.29 percent under estimates.
Six other bidders submitted proposals ranging up to $1,472,577.27, or 15.54 percent over the estimate.
The board adopted a resolution to borrow up to $226,922 against 2002 state aid funds.
Enblom said he does not expect to expend that amount until 2002, but borrowing the funds enables him to begin work on projects this year that will be completed in 2002.
By accepting the money this year, the county also will earn interest income on those funds between now and the time the money must be paid to contractors.
