The Sartell Sabres sliced and diced the Brainerd High School pool record book during Thursday's Central Lakes Conference meet.

Four pool records, including one they already owned, crumbled as Sartell knocked off the Brainerd Warriors 112-74.

It was the first loss of the season for Brainerd, which received just one first place - Katy Etterman's winning dive score of 212.70 points.

"We were really nervous because we were told that we had to step it up and that we needed a 1-2, if not a 1-2-3 finish," said Etterman. "We practiced just like normal. We went through our dives and tried to perfect them just like any other week. We tried to treat it like any other meet."

Etterman said she was pleased with her first four dives, but struggled on the final two. Because of the final two efforts she just missed her personal-best score.

The Warriors swept the top three diving positions as Beth Etterman placed second with a personal-best 186.10 and Allison Reuer dove to a personal-best 170.15 for third.

"The other girls really stepped up tonight," said Etterman, who placed 27th in last year's state meet. "Most people weren't sure that we could do this, but both Beth and Allison stepped up and it was a really good effort."

Other than that it was all Sartell. Marisa Wood won the 200-yard freestyle in a pool record time of 1:55.93. She broke Wayzata's Kate Coombe's 1:58.81 record set in 1999.

Wood also broke her own 500 free record, which she initially set in 2007, with a 5:06.96.

The 400 free relay of Kate Hellie, Molly Peichel, Ellen Bloom and Wood broke the 1998 Wayzata team's 3:48.23 with a 3:45.17.

And, Dawn Clabo's long-standing 50 free time of 24.90 set in 1978 fell to Hellie, who won at 24.88.

Brainerd's Laura Goll finished second in the 200 and 500 frees. Sarah Dens captured seconds in the 50 and 100 frees and Siri Smith was runner-up in the 100 backstroke.

"Laura had a good meet," said Warrior head coach Dan Anderson. "She finished second to Marisa Wood in both events. It's hard to go out and swim your race when you have a girl who goes off like a rocket.

"I thought Alex Erickson had a nice meet, too. She had two season-best times in the IM and the fly."

Last season the Sabres finished third in the Class 1A state meet. Wood was second in the 200 free and won the 500 free with a state-record time of 5:02.05. Hellie was fifth in the 50 free and third in the 100 butterfly while the 200-free relay won with a 1:37.63.

"I was hoping we could keep them under 110 points," said Anderson. "When you swim somebody like this, you know you're going to lose. You just want your kids to go out and compete and race and not be standing in awe of their opponent. I thought we did that. I thought we competed as well as we could.

"Sartell is a once-in-a-coaches-lifetime-type team."
