This month's arrest of three suspected Islamist terrorists was another close call that reminds us how vigilant the United States must be in its fight against terrorists.
The terrorists were arrested earlier this month on suspicious of plotting imminent, massive bomb attacks on U.S. facilities in Germany. The primary targets, investigators said, were the Frankfurt International Airport and the nearby U.S. Ramstein Air Force Base.
The day before the German arrests Danish authorities arrested eight alleged Islamic militants with links to al-Qaida.
The cooperation of allies was a key element in both arrests. Our staunchest allies realize that no foe of al-Qaida is immune from possible terrorist attacks. Continued cooperation and intelligence-sharing when appropriate must be a vital part of our defense.
