CLC to host Engineering Day in Brainerd for high school students

Posted: Wednesday, September 18, 2002

Some of Minnesota's top engineering professors and professionals will present information on careers Oct. 3 during the third Engineering Day at Central Lakes College in Brainerd.

Several presenters will display examples of what engineering produces.

The event, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., will feature short discussion periods with university engineering professors and area industry officials active in various engineering careers.

"This is an introduction to what engineering is all about," said Brian Kohn, CLC instructor and event coordinator. "We have some new presenters."

He said the University of North Dakota will bring a speaker to talk about aeronautical engineering.

Other universities represented will be the University of Minnesota-Duluth (mechanical engineering) and Minnesota State University, Mankato (electrical engineering and automotive engineering).

Jodi Martinson of the Minnesota Department of Transportation will present civil engineering. She is the Highway 371 bypass bridge project engineer.

Other presenters will discuss environmental engineering (Alan Cibuzar of AW Research) and entrepreneurial engineering (Paul, Lynn and Ryan Hunt and Bob McLean of Hunt Utility Group). Kohn said he will outline the pre-engineering opportunities at CLC.
