DULUTH -- Theo Laurane Brooks, 80, Duluth and Barnes, Wis., died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, in the Franciscan Health Care Center in Duluth.
She was born July 1, 1921, in Brainerd to Carl John and Bessie Catherine (Mandery) Chillquist. She graduated from Brainerd High School in 1939. After high school, she worked for Montgomery Ward in retail sales in Brainerd. She married Gordon Brooks on Sept. 17, 1944, in Denver and moved that year to Duluth. She worked at J.C. Penney Co. and later was credit manager for Maurices. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was past matron of the Glen Avon Chapter of Duluth. She was a member and volunteer of the American Red Cross Disaster Team. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary 8329 in Barnes, Wis., as well as a member of Barnes Community Church and its homemaker's club.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Catherine Main, Naperville, Ill., and Carol Jean Brooks, Duluth, and Susan Wiitanen, Duluth; one son, Barry Brooks, Duluth; one sister, Alice Kuehling, Barnes, Wis.; one brother, C. Loren Chillquist, Spokane, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Her sister, Carol Josephine Larson, and a granddaughter died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Barnes Community Church. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery in Highland Township of Wisconsin. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Chapel in Duluth and from 10 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the church.
Memorials are preferred to the Minnesota American Red Cross Disaster Team or the Barnes Community Church.
