CROSSLAKE -- The Crosslake Area Historical Society will host the Candlelight and Cider Tour, the closing event of the 2003 centennial season, 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Historical Log Village.
The tour is free. Participants will get hot apple cider as they visit with loggers, early settlers and the school marm.
Kai and Bridget Allen will provide folk music, and there will be horse drawn wagon rides through the pines.
The Historic Log Village is at the junction of County Roads 3 and 66 in Crosslake.
Fall festival planned Oct. 11 in Mission Park
MISSION TOWNSHIP -- A fall festival is planned 3 to 6 p.m. Oct. 11 at Mission Park.
The free event will include horse-drawn wagon rides, a bonfire, fall crafts, pumpkins and pumpkin decorating, a medallion hunt, face painting, hot cider, games and more.
Homegrown pumpkins may be entered in the "biggest" and "ugliest" pumpkin contests. Goodies to eat will be available for purchase.
Mission Park is just east of County Road 3 and south of County Road 11 in Mission Township.

Preschool training classes offered in Walker
WALKER -- Trainings to help parents and caregivers prepare children for school will be offered in Walker.
Literacy/social/emotional skills training for people who work with 3- to 5-year-olds, titled Seeds of School Readiness Training, will run 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays on the following dates.
Sept. 27 -- Learn the literacy skills children are expected to be able to do before kindergarten. Learn how to make a home or classroom a rich space for children to learn. Learn how parents, grandparents or caregivers can be quality teachers to children.
Oct. 4 -- Learn how language and literacy grow together in children. Learn fun and meaningful ways to promote vocabulary and pre-reading skills.
Nov. 22 -- Practice what has been learned so far. Learn about the stages in the writing process and meaningful ways to help children become aware of letters and print.
Dec. 13 -- 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Make a literacy plan that involves the family. Then learn how to involve the library in helping to create a literacy rich environment.
