MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Minnesota Twins third-base coach Al Newman continues to recover slowly from a hemorrhage he suffered in his brain last Thursday, team officials said Tuesday.
Manager Ron Gardenhire said that Newman was able to get out of his bed in a Chicago hospital, sit in a chair and speak with his wife. He recognized general manager Terry Ryan, and doctors were trying to wean him off his medicine.
"That's a good sign," Gardenhire said.

The Twins don't expect Newman to be able to leave the hospital for another four or five days. His asthma has made the recovery process go slower.
"Our hearts and thoughts will always be with Al," Gardenhire said.
