The shock waves from yesterday's election are still being felt in Brainerd, Crow Wing County and across the state. The Brainerd senior citizens are rejoicing because of the overwhelming support the voters gave the half-mill levy that will help support a Senior Citizens Center in the old Fire Hall.
30 years ago (1972)
A budget totaling more than $9,000,000 for 1973 was unveiled at a Brainerd school board meeting. Despite the size of the budget the local taxpayers will realize a savings of 17 mills.
40 years ago (1962)
Jim Martinson and Bill Johnson comprise the winning duo for the Brainerd Golf Course's Annual Skill Point Tournament, which attracted 27 tandems for Sunday's competition.
60 years ago (1942)
A new "Penny Milk Program" designed to furnish milk to all pupils in Brainerd schools will be restored to schools of the city. The milk plan is sponsored by the Elks Lodge in Brainerd.
80 years ago (1922)
The high school senior class meeting was held Thursday at which the following officers were elected:
Class adviser, Miss Tornstrom; President, William Graham; Vice Pres., Lloyd Jones; Secretary, Theresa Emilson and Treasurer, Lloyd Lewis.
100 years ago (1902)
-- Dr. Thabes went to Deerwood this afternoon being called on professional business.
