LEADER - Donald Charles Cory, of Leader, passed away at St. Otto's Care Center on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008. Services are planned for Monday, Sept. 15, at 1 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall in Jenkins. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 3-5 p.m. at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples and one hour prior to the service at the Kingdom Hall. Burial will be in the Poplar Cemetery.
Donald was born on Oct. 31, 1921, in Baudette, Minn., to Charles and Mary Alice (McCoy) Cory. Around the age of nine the family moved to Leader. Don attended the Leader School, graduating from the 8th grade. He worked on the family farm. On Feb. 3 of 1944 he married Maybelle Dumpprope in Staples. In the early 70s Don and Maybelle moved their family to Anoka where Don took a job with the school district. He worked for the school for 16 years and upon retiring moved back to the Leader area. He enjoyed summer fishing, traveling in his RV, gardening and spending time with his family and friends.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Maybelle; children, Jerry (Penny), of Staples, Keith "George " (Sandy), of Leader, Jayne (Dennis) Hanson, of Verndale, Marlys (Ted) Utz, of Staples, and Lola (Mark) Peterson-Lind, of Staples; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, William and Robert; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David; grandson, Joseph Utz; brothers, Dennis and Charles; and niece, Jackie.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
