September is almost half over and the kids are back in school. You can feel the weather changing and smell fall in the air. As we get back into routines of our lives would it be too much to ask for two hours a week to change the life of a child?
Steve is a 12-year-old boy who is living with his mother and younger sister in Brainerd. He spends a lot of time at home watching TV and playing video games. His mother would like an opportunity for him to get out and do things other than sit at home and also would like him to make new friends. Steve can be shy at first but once he gets to know you can be friendly and active.
Steve was asked how he would describe himself to an adult volunteer and he said "I'm shy, sad, laid back. I like to have fun things to do but can sit around. My favorite things to do would be play football and magic cards." Though Steve does have some anger issues he has so much potential.
If you are a person who is willing to give just two hours a week to help a 12-year-old boy to get out and see the world, please take the first step to becoming a Kinship Partner mentor.
