Norman H. "Red" Nelson, 78, Brainerd, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.
Norm was born March 11, 1927, in Brainerd, Minn., to Ned and Grace (Otto) Nelson. He was a veteran of the United States Navy Seabees. He married Shirley Sundbye in Gardener, Kansas, on Feb. 10, 1949. He was an air brake foreman for the railroad from which he retired Jan. 1, 1983. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the VFW Post No. 1647, American Legion Post No. 255 and the Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his children, James (Barbara) and their daughter, Christina, of Riverton, Patricia Nelson, of Brainerd, Thomas (Jo Anne), of Brainerd, Judith (Warner) Gouin, and their daughter, Nicole, of Burnsville, Teresa (Terry) Giles, and their daughter, Samantha, of Nisswa; his sister, Lois Jubie, of Brainerd; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley on June 18, 2005; and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor Mark Skinner officiating. Military rites provided by the VFW Post No. 1647. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
