Fortified by breakfast of scrambled eggs and bacon, approximately 40 volunteers started on a four-day blitz for the Brainerd Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce annual membership drive. Arnold S. Johnson gave the kickoff speech to the teams.

Voters of Crow Wing County voted by a nearly 6 to 1 margin in favor of an airport referendum that will permit the city of Brainerd and the county to sell up to $900,000 in bonds as local share of an $8 million improvement project.

(Photo) Mrs. Don Brundige and Mrs. Ellsworth Young recently mailed several packages containing school, sewing and first aid supplies to servicemen and schools in Vietnam. The items were collected by the Ladies Home League of the Salvation Army.

An automobile driven by Earl DeRocher was run into by a hit and run driver at 11:30 p.m. last night south of Barrows. Occupants of the DeRocher car were unable to get the other's license number, and driving under the influence of liquor was suspected.

100 years ago (1909)

W.H. Orne, of Faribault, and W.B. Orne and family, of this city, returned this morning from a hunting trip to Pine River. They report a fine time and brought in about 20 chickens.
