With just five home swimming and diving meets this season, the Brainerd Warriors want to put on a show for their fans when they have the chance.
They didn't disappoint Thursday, handing the outnumbered Little Falls Flyers a 121-61 Central Lakes Conference loss.
Brainerd won 10 events and swept the top three spots in six.
"We only have four or five home meets so the girls are really ready to go," Warriors coach Dan Anderson said. "Some girls only swam three events but you can't hold them back because they're going to swim as fast as they can go. We've trained really hard lately."
Brainerd senior captain Emily Dunphy was one swimmer who made the most of her opportunity. Dunphy was a member of the first-place 200 medley relay team with Krystal Halverson, Erica Campbell and Brianna Elg. Dunphy finished second in the 200 individual medley and won the 100 breaststroke.
It's the breaststroke that Dunphy looks forward to the most because she has swam it since first grade.
"It's what I look forward to at the end of the meet," said Dunphy. "This year I'm trying to go out and swim it the best that I can. I like being under water a lot and it's more of an under water stroke. You are always focused straight ahead."
Anderson pointed out that Dunphy has made strides as a swimmer in her four years on the varsity.
"If somebody would've told me that Emily was going to be this good as a senior, when she was a freshman, I wouldn't have believed them," Anderson said. "She's a very hard worker that's made herself into a very good swimmer. She's a competitor and she won't quit."
While the Warriors received their usual performances from veterans like Christina Roberts, who won the 100 and 200 freestyles, they also received a surprise as freshman Katie Schindler won the 200 IM. It was Schindler's first varsity win.
