ST. CLOUD -- The Brainerd Warriors' boys soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Monday, an 8-0 loss on the road to the St. Cloud Apollo Eagles. The loss stopped the Warriors' win streak at three, the longest string of wins in the team's short history.
"We played better than the score showed," said Brainerd head coach David Devine. "We had a couple of bad bounces." Those bad bounces coupled with a smothering Eagles' defense that allowed the Warriors only five shots on goal resulted in a shutout loss for the Warriors. Apollo put the ball on net often and effectively. The Eagle attackers peppered the Brainerd goal with 21 shots during the match.
Jacob Schlagheck and Kevin Kobienia each scored two goals for Apollo. Other St. Cloud goals were scored by Matt Weber, Jacob Benda, Kris Gurda and Dan Mondloch.
The conference loss drops Brainerd to 3-1 in the Central Lakes Conference and 3-2 overall. The Warriors will host St. Cloud Tech Thursday.
