MOTLEY -- Werner F. Konen, 94, Motley, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at Greater Staples Care Center.
He was born Aug. 12, 1906, in Pierz to Edward and Margaret (Tretter) Konen. He moved from Pierz to South Dakota where he worked on various farms. He married Margaret Krafton on Jan. 24, 1934, in Gettysburg, S.D. They moved back to the Pierz area. In 1981, they moved to a farm near Motley and farmed there for many years. He also worked at various places in the Motley area. He was a resident of Sunny Pines Apartments for 22 years. He was a member of St. Michael's in Motley and the Senior Citizen's Club.
Survivors include six sons, James Konen, Ramsey, Raymond Konen, Motley, Gerald Konen, Anoka, Werner Konen Jr., Flagstaff, Ariz., Frank Konen, Hutchinson, and LeRoy Konen, Garrison; five daughters, Mary Ann Zetah, Motley, Rose Marie Zetah, Cushing, Betty Weidendorf, Sauk Center, Margaret Doll, Golden Valley, and Evelyn Blaine, Virginia Beach, Va.; 43 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Piehowski, New Brighton; and three brothers, Victor Konen, Anoka, Edward Konen, Quincy, Wash., and Alquin Konen, Green Valley, Ariz.
His wife, a grandson, and two great-grandchildren, died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church of Motley with Father Robert Landsberger officiating. Burial will be in Motley Public Cemetery.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Brenny Funeral Home of Staples with parish prayers at 7 p.m.
