NISSWA -- The Nisswa Caboose Society (Nisswa Area Historical Society) will hold a membership and board meeting 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Nisswa Community Center. All members and interested residents are encouraged to attend.
The agenda will include discussion of 2001 goals in regard to the depot complex and the Pioneer Village.

Lakes Area Pregnancy Support center will be holding its seventh annual "Celebrate Life" fundraising banquet on Monday, Oct. 9 at 6:30 PM at Lakewood Evangelical Free Church in Baxter. This year Carman Pate will be the keynote speaker. She most recently served as president of Concerned Women of America and co-hosted a nationally syndicated radio program, Beverly LaHaye Today.

Brainerd lakes area residents and community leaders are invited to an informative meeting hosted by Special Olympics Minnesota from 6:30-8 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Brainerd YMCA, 602 Oak Street, Brainerd.
The rally will feature a video presentation with a lot of information about Special Olympics and how the Brainerd area can support its growth. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with local leadership volunteers, staff members from Special Olympics Minnesota and some of the great Brainerd area Special Olympics athletes.

Allied Charities of Minnesota, the statewide organization of charitable gambling groups, will host an informal meeting for all charitable gambling organizations in the region at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at the V.F.W. Post 1647, 309 South Sixth Street, Brainerd.
King Wilson, executive director of ACM will be the featured speaker. Chuck Latta, Region 7 director from Onamia, will convene the meeting.
The meeting will provide the latest information on state and federal changes in charitable gambling and will explain how those changes are going to affect organizations. Other topics include a wrap-up of the 2000 Legislative session, the charitable gambling tax reduction, Gambling Control Board rule changes, federal excise tax and UBIT update, tip income reporting, privatized and/or state casino proposals and its affect on charitable gambling, 2001 ACM Legislative platform, the 10th annual Minnesota Lawful Gambling Convention and Expo program and a general question and answer session.
