The Brainerd School District is up 50 students this year.
Gary Phillips, assistant superintendent, who reported enrollment numbers to the Brainerd School Board Monday, said the district currently has 7,269 students, not including 21 students, who attend Central Lakes College as full-time post secondary students.
Last year's enrollment was 7,219 on the first day of school. In the eight elementary schools, there are 3,042 students this year.
Phillips said the district continues to have fewer students enrolled in kindergarten. This year there are 448 kindergarten students. Last year there were 466 kindergarten students.
The district projects its kindergarten number by the birth rate at St. Joseph's Medical Center.
Washington Middle School has 836 students, Franklin Junior High has 843, Mississippi Horizons has 560 and the high school has 1,589.
There are 322 students at the Area Education Center, 48 at the Minnesota Learning Center, 14 in the Middle Level Alternative Program, eight in the Central Minnesota Regional Detention Center and seven in the Baxter youth shelter.
