The prospect of changing a school board election system that goes back three decades has apparently met with a massive show of public apathy. Only one board member reported public reaction to a proposed return to a ward system.

60 years ago (1949)
A new era has opened up in Brainerd Junior College football history. It happened at Roosevelt Field when an extra point kick struck the helmet of an opposing player and bounced over the crossbar, giving Brainerd a 7-6 victory over Hibbing, and the first win in its three-year history.
80 years ago (1929)
A west Brainerd family returned from a fishing trip at one of the lakes to find their home burned to the ground. The five room, one story house was located in the woods beyond the reach of fire hydrants. A bucket brigade was organized but to no avail.
