The crew pulled a 32-foot wooden York boat out of the water Thursday at Lum Park in Brainerd. The boat, similar to those used by the Hudson Bay Trading Co. in the 1800s, was built recently in Canada for the Old Man River Project.

Admission is free. Food can be purchased on site. Hard hats will be provided and participants are advised to wear appropriate footwear.

It happened at Roosevelt Field when an extra point kick struck the helmet of an opposing player and bounced over the crossbar, giving Brainerd a 7-6 victory over Hibbing, and the first win in its three-year history.

BACKUS - Lloyd Haggberg, age 97, of Backus, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009. He was born Sept. 11, 1911, in Courtenay, N.D., to Gust and Ruby Haggberg. Lloyd served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Blanche Wooldridge on March 4, 1935, in Park River, N.D. They moved to McKinley Township in the early 1940s. He enjoyed talking on his CB radios.
