HILL CITY -- The Aitkin County Private Woodlands Committee and its partners will host a Light on the Land logging demonstration from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 27 and 28.
The demonstration is open to the public and will be held about six miles east of Hill City, just south of Highway 200. Lunch will be available for purchase at the site.
Light on the Land logging equipment is a range of equipment that increases logging flexibility and extends production seasons. It is designed for thinning and selective harvest operations where maneuverability is a primary concern. The demonstration will show how this equipment operates and how these systems can provide access to more stands of timber during longer periods of time, all while minimizing damage to the site and residual trees.
Target audiences for the 11 invited vendors at the demonstration include serious woodlot owners interested in managing their own forest lands, loggers, foresters and other land managers and agencies.
The Aitkin County Private Woodlands Committee, the McKnight Foundation, the Minnesota Forestry Association and the U.S. Forest Service/Minnesota Department of Natural Resources provided funding for the demonstration.
