PIERZ -- Alma M. Langer, 88, Pierz, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud.
She was born Sept. 8, 1912, in Granite Township in Morrison County, to John and Catherine (Brinkman) Brummer. She grew up on a farm and attended country school. She married Edward "Leo" Langer on Sept. 20, 1932, at St. John's Catholic Church in Lastrup. The couple made their home on the Langer family farm where she was a housewife. The farm was named a Century Farm in 1985. The couple farmed and owned and operated Langer Sand and Gravel until their retirement in 1962. Following their retirement, they lived on the farm until 1994 when they moved to Rose Court in Pierz. They then became residents of St. Mary's Villa in 1998 where she lived at the time of her death. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz, Catholic Aid Society for more than 50 years and the Christian Mothers for 60 years.
Survivors include her husband; six daughters, Arleen Favre and Donnella Schmidtbauer, both of St. Louis Park, Dolores Durand, Plymouth, JoAnn Kappes, Minnetonka, Marlys Langer, Crystal, Mary Kay Hanson, Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister, Hilda Hartman, Springfield, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
Four brothers, George, Henry, Frank and John Brummer, and four sisters, Helen Banach, Marie Peterson, Clara Banack and Ann Kosloski died earlier.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz with Father Gerald Dalseth officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Parish Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today and 8-10 a.m. Tuesday at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz. Christian Mothers/Women will pray the rosary at 4:30 p.m. today followed by parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral chapel. Memorials are preferred to the Sharing and Caring Hands.
