20 years ago (1990)

A man who spent part of Saturday morning handcuffed to a fence at BIR told county authorities he didn't want to press charges against the raceway or security guards. He had driven an ATV through the pit area while intoxicated, hitting a race car.

30 years ago (1980)

After the primary it will be Mary Koep against Lucy Neshiem in District 3 to become Crow Wing County's first female commissioner. Herb Thiesse and Don Crust, both farmers, will face off in District 1, and T. J. Butorac and Jinx Ferrari vie in District 5.

40 years ago (1970)

Both the opponents and proponents of a program to develop a campground at the Gull Lake Dam will carry their cases to federal officials in St. Paul. A meeting with the East Gull Lake council was lightly attended, but a petition of protest drew 219 signatures.

60 years ago (1950)

There is absolutely no delay in the work progressing on the Mill Avenue bridge. That assurance came from Mayor Levi Johnson, who responded to rumors that men were being laid off by checking with the state highway engineer and the contractor.

80 years ago (1930)

Gagging him and binding his hands and feet behind his back, two un-masked bandits robbed "Bun" Mraz, driver of a Yellow Candy Cash Car of $700 and 15,000 cigarettes and left him in a cornfield. Wriggling free, he returned to Brainerd to turn in the alarm.

100 years ago (1910)

E.A. Lamb, the Deerwood real estate man, who has charge of the sale of lots in the new Cuyuna range town of "Ironton," sold 24 lots on opening day. The new town lies near Crosby and has eleven blocks with approximately 200 lots available.
