DEERWOOD - John Carl Schroeder, 85, Deerwood, died Sept. 8, 2009, at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center, Crosby. He was born on May 28, 1924, in Peotone, Ill.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian; two daughters, Joyce (Darrel) Johnson, Inver Grove Heights, and Jackie (Leroy) Elyea, Brainerd; one sister, Frieda Bartsch, Sun City, Calif.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 5 p.m. Saturday at the Cascade United Methodist Church, Deerwood, with full military honors given by the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion. Burial will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea. Friends may call on Friday at the Koop Funeral Home, Crosby, from 5-7 p.m. and on Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church.
