A Twin Cities couple linked to a rash of thefts in the Twin Cities and in central Minnesota, including Brainerd, were arrested last week in Elk River.

Mallory Plochocki, 25, Cedar, and Jason Olson, 38, Mounds View, were arrested Sept. 3 in Elk River while attempting to break into several vehicles.

Plochocki and Olson are suspects in a handful of thefts at the Brainerd Family YMCA, where vehicle windows were broken and purses, gym bags and other items were stolen.

Brainerd Police Investigator Craig Katzenberger said a warrant was executed on the couple's vehicle in Elk River and numerous items were recovered, including property belonging to Brainerd victims.

"There's going to be a number of charges out there from other jurisdictions," Katzenberger said.

One Brainerd victim, Deb Eberts, said she was relieved Plochocki and Olson were finally arrested.

"I'm really hoping this time they remain in jail. Hopefully that will prevent them from victimizing other people," Eberts said.

In Sherburne County, Plochocki is being held for felony tampering with a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, theft, possession of a small amount of marijuana and on a Hennepin County warrant. Her bail has been set at $50,000.

Olson is being held for felony tampering with a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property. His bail also was set at $50,000.

In Brainerd, Katzenberger said Plochocki and Olson will be charged with financial transaction card fraud.

Jason Olson

Both Plochocki and Olson have extensive criminal histories in Minnesota.

Since 1992 Olson has been charged for attempting to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of controlled substances, assault, theft, obstructing the legal process, fleeing from police and numerous traffic violations.

Since 2000, Plochocki has been charged for burglary, theft, offering forged checks, financial transaction card fraud, identity theft, obstructing the legal process and numerous traffic violations.
