Deerwood man wounded in apparent hunting accident
A 30-year-old Deerwood man was injured after being shot by a .22-caliber rifle while he was hunting geese about 7 p.m. Saturday on Nokay Lake Road, east of Brainerd in Deerwood Township.

Pete Feigal, an award-winning artist, motorcycle drag racer and educator on mental health issues, will speak from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Park United Methodist Church, 315 N. Sixth St. in Brainerd.Feigal, who was diagnosed with major depression at the age of 12 and who spent a year as a teenager in a psychiatric hospital, is also a director, a writer and an essayist. He has suffered from bipolar disorder.

Maurice William Bakkila Sr., 66, Brainerd, passed away on Sept. 5, 2008, at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center. He was born in Brainerd on March 29, 1942, to Morris and Elaine Bakkila. He later fell in love with and married Vicki Jean O'Day on May 29, 1961. Together they had six beautiful children.

In October, 2007, Barack Hussein Obama promised the Planned Parenthood Action Fund that as president of the United States his first act would be to sign the Freedom of Choice Act. As reported by Rich Lowry in the National Review, this act "would not only codify Roe v. Wade, but would wipe out all current federal, state and local restrictions on abortions that pass muster under Roe, including the Hyde Amendment prohibiting federal funding of abortion."
