Rose Duke

PINE RIVER - Rose Duke, age 94, of Pine River, passed away Friday, September 7, 2007, at the Redwood Area Hospital in Redwood Falls. She was born April 17, 1913, in Jacksonville, Shelby County, Iowa, to Ernest and Christina (Jorgensen) Petersen.

When Rose was seven years old, the family moved to Blind Lake Township, rural Pine River. She attended Blind Lake School and graduated the eighth grade. At the age of 16, she moved to Harlan, Iowa, and lived with her aunt. She married Frank (Jimmy) Duke on September 11, 1930. In 1939 Rose and Jimmy moved to Brainerd. In 1942 they went into the ministry with the Church of the Nazarene serving churches in Wisconsin, Oregon and Minnesota. They retired in 1971 and moved back to their cabin on Lake Louise in Blind Lake Township.

Rose is survived by her children, Barbara Beske (Gerald) of Redwood Falls, Jamie Duke (Muriel) of Pine River, Connie Duke (Phillip Freseman) of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla; sisters, LuJean Erickson and Bernice Robideaux, both of Blind Lake Township; nine grandchildren; many great- and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Roy Petersen.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 11 at the Church of the Nazarene in Backus with Pastors Greg Baker and Mel Patrick officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Backus. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. at Kline Funeral Home in Pine River and one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.
