FIRES
AITKIN - An Aitkin man was arrested by Aitkin Police early Sunday morning after he set his apartment on fire, causing an evacuation of the apartment building, according to police.

Veronica M. Damm, 93, of Brainerd, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2007, at the Edgewood Vista in Brainerd. Funeral services are pending with the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home.

Florence C. Longfellow
Florence C. Longfellow, age 92, former resident of Fort Ripley, died Saturday, September 8, 2007, at Woodland Good Samaritan Village. Florence was born May 15, 1915, in St. Bonifacius, Minn., to John and Lena (Ditsch) Thesing.

Rose Duke
PINE RIVER - Rose Duke, age 94, of Pine River, passed away Friday, September 7, 2007, at the Redwood Area Hospital in Redwood Falls. She was born April 17, 1913, in Jacksonville, Shelby County, Iowa, to Ernest and Christina (Jorgensen) Petersen.

Articles have included both a "doomsday" scenario should the levy fail as well as "tug-at-the-heartstrings" impact to individual families.
