ARDEN HILLS -- Marion Erickson, age 89, of Arden Hills, formerly of Brainerd, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at the Presbyterian Homes in Arden Hills.
Marion Sidonia Thoreson was born on Oct. 17, 1914, in Lakefield, daughter of Ole and Amanda (Erickson) Thoreson. After the death of her father, the family moved to Minneapolis where Marion graduated from Marshall High School. She attended the University of Minnesota. On Jan. 6, 1939, in Minneapolis, she was united in marriage to Herbert K. Erickson. They moved to Brainerd in the mid-1940s. She worked as a secretary for the Crow Wing County Superintendent of Schools then for Lake Region Clinic and then she worked at the Brainerd Community College. She was a member of Park United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Shrine Auxiliary, Legion Auxiliary and the League of Women Voters. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, her friends and at her cabin on North Long Lake. Marion liked to play bridge.
Marion is survived by her son, John (Mary) Erickson, of Devils Lake, N.D.; daughter, Linda (Robert) Jensen, of Anoka; sister-in-law, Vera Bender, of Brainerd; five grandchildren, Cristy (Jack) Schaan, of Chandler, Ariz., Daniel Erickson, of Mesa, Ariz., Matthew (Deborah) Erickson, of Brainerd, Andrew Jensen, of Anoka, and Michael Jensen, of Anoka; and three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Alexis and Alyssa Schaan, all of Chandler, Ariz.
Her husband, Herbert; her parents; sisters, Evelyn Kentta and Alice Ann Madson; and brother, Eldon "Bus" Thoreson, preceded her in death.
Services will be on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Park United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rory Swenson officiating, with visitation one hour before. Burial will follow at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Camp Ripley. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
