At least three homes were evacuated and traffic was blocked on South Sixth Street for 90 minutes Thursday after a recreational vehicle collided with a car and began leaking propane, the Brainerd Fire Department reported.
The collision happened about 3 p.m. at South Sixth and Quince streets. Firefighters cleared the scene at 4:20 p.m.
Kevin Stunek, assistant fire chief, said the recreational vehicle's engine was powered by propane, and the large fuel tanks as well as the recreational vehicle's batteries ruptured during the collision.
The leaking propane never ignited, Stunek said. Firefighters sprayed the leaking tanks and batteries until an AmeriGas Propane representative could fix the leaks.
No one was injured in the collision or by the leaking propane, Stunek said.
