Filings closed Tuesday for city offices. Here are some of the contests that will be decided in the Nov. 2 general election.
LAKE SHORE -- Mayor Donald E. McFarland will face challenger John Terwilliger for the mayor's post. Running for two four-year council terms are Lyle E. Kline, Monte K. Mraz, Susan Amacher, Wendell "Dell" Draves and John Bukovich.
BACKUS -- Three candidates are running for mayor. They are Cloie Smith, council member Charles Dufour and Butch Freeman. Running for two openings on the council are Dorothy M. Hill, Steven Braker and Jack Tesch.
DEERWOOD -- There are no races in Deerwood with Brian E. Wasserzieher filing for the two-year mayor's term and Sherri Godfrey and David Law filing for two four-year terms on the council.
HACKENSACK -- The mayor's race will feature Erick Hedren and Ken Braswell running for a four-year term. Seeking two four-year terms on the council are John Chuba, Larry Chia, Mike Caterino, Loren Wood and Gary "Buck" Martig.
IRONTON -- David W. Hicks filed for mayor. James E. Gavin and Dean French filed for two four-year terms on the council. William Thoms filed for the two-year term on the council. Filing for the hospital board was Earl Bedard.
MOTLEY -- Patrick O'Regan faces no opposition in his bid for a two-year term as mayor. Running for two four-year council terms are Michael Kronenberg, Bruce Mills and Larry Holub.
PIERZ -- Running for mayor are incumbent Mike Menden and City Clerk Lorae Vardas. Running for city clerk is Kathy Kahlhamer. Council candidates for the one open seat are Jason Leeb, Michelle Bochow, Lynn Egan and Herbert Broschofsky. The incumbent council member, Jeff Fuhrman, did not run.
WADENA -- Mayor Wayne Wolden faces no opposition. The three candidates for two council seats are Pete Phillips, incumbent Mark Fillhouer and Kay Browne.
