Mackenzie Ross and Logan Mohs of Brainerd's Vacationland Figure Skating Club won the Minnesota State Juvenile Ice Dance Championship Aug. 27-29 in Burnsville.
Twenty-four clubs participated in the annual event.
Ross, a senior at Brainerd High School, and Mohs, a sophomore, are coached by Dianah Klatt of St. Cloud. They have been skating with Vacationland for 10 years and started as a dance team two years ago.
The duo is preparing to participate in the Upper Great Lakes Regional Competition in October in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Heartland Symphony Orchestra announces season schedule
The Heartland Symphony Orchestra will perform fall, winter and spring shows at Tornstrom Auditorium, Washington Middle School, in Brainerd, and the Charles D. Martin Auditorium at Little Falls High School.
The fall concert, "Meet the HSO," is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 8 in Little Falls and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 in Brainerd. The performances will feature the orchestra's players as soloists, as sections and as a complete symphony orchestra. The program will include Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik," Schumann's "Konzertstuck for Four Horns," and Corigliano's Voyage for Flute and Strings."
The symphony will perform popular hits celebrating the snow and holidays at the winter concert, 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 in Brainerd and 2:30 p.m. Dec. 5 in Little Falls. The winter performances will include the traditional holiday carol sing-along.
"Merry Ol' England" is the spring concert. The world's most beloved English pieces will be performed, including Sir Arthur Sullivan's "Overture to Pirates of Penzance" and Ralph Vaughan Williams' "English Folk Song Suite."
Season tickets are $20 for adults, $30 for adult pairs, $35 for families and $12 for seniors and students. Individual tickets are also available at Bridge of Harmony and the Dispatch in Brainerd and Bookin' It and the Great River Arts Center in Little Falls.

Heartland Poets to meet Friday
Heartland Poets, the area chapter of the League of Minnesota Poets, will meet 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Brainerd Public Library.
After a short business meeting, Charmaine Donovan of Brainerd will present "Contesting: Structure for Poetic Creativity."
Following the program, refreshments will be served and poets will review each others' poems in progress. Bring copies so others can fully appreciate your work.

NISSWA -- The Nisswa Fall Festival will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 18 in downtown Nisswa. An arts and crafts show and food vendors will be featured throughout the day. Other events include:

* Haystack coin and toy hunt, 10:30 a.m.
