20 years ago (1982)

Brainerd public school enrollment in grades Kindergarten through 12 stands at 5,698 students, down 58 students from last year's total 5,750.

30 years ago (1972)

Area voters will go to the polls Tuesday to pare down the number of candidates seeking office in the November election. Automatic voting machines will provide something of a new twist in the city of Brainerd. It will mark the first time that the machines have been used here.

40 years ago (1962)

The new paper coating process being inaugurated at Northwest Paper Co. should be in operation by late fall 1963.

60 years ago (1942)

Miss Marlyss McGinn and Miss Genevieve Thomason, John Schaefer and Al Gilseth attended the State Fair in Minneapolis Sunday and Monday.

80 years ago (1922)

Jacob Meyers, driving a Michigan car, and bound for Walker, collided with the lamp post on the Lyceum corner, without damage to the post other than breaking two of the lamp globes. Mr. Meyers paid the damages, amounting to $6.50 and went on his way.

100 years ago (1902)

Enpeck (excitedly at 2 a.m.): "Wake up an listen, my dear. I'm sure there is a man in the house."

Mrs. Enpeck (sleepily): "Do keep quiet, Henry. You flatter yourself."
