Rotary clubs participated in festival

Posted: Friday, September 08, 2006

Members of the Brainerd Noon and Brainerd Morning Rotary clubs and other community members recently participated in the fifth annual Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival.

The "Paul Bunyan Axmen" earned 32nd place overall and first place in the Service Club Category.

The Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival is an annual fundraising event organized by the Superior Rotary Club and Duluth's Harbortown Rotary Club.

Counties designated as natural disaster areas

The U.S. Department of Agriculture designated 36 Minnesota counties as primary natural disaster areas due to drought that occurred this summer. The decision makes all qualified farm operators in the designated areas eligible for low-interest emergency loans from USDA's Farm Service Agency.

Area counties include Aitkin, Cass, Crow Wing, Morrison, Todd and Wadena.

Observance set for Sept. 11

There will be a Sept. 11 observance at 9 a.m. Monday at the Brainerd American Legion.

Members of the Brainerd American Legion and Brained VFW, Brainerd Mayor James Wallin and Baxter Mayor Darrel Olson, Sen. Paul Koering and Brainerd Fire Chief Fred Underhill are expected to attend.

Planning commission to meet Wednesday

The Brainerd Planning Commission will conduct an Ordinance Task Force recommendation review workshop at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Brainerd City Hall. The regular planning meeting will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Brainerd City Hall.
