Robert "Biking Bob" Erickson, former trustee with the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, met with staff and students Tuesday at Central Lakes College in Brainerd and Staples as part of his 2,200-mile solo ride to all 53 MnSCU campuses in 46 communities. His first two rides garnered nearly $200,000 for part-time students, including several at CLC.
Erickson, now a member of the MnSCU Foundation Board, said the need is greater than ever as the cost of education rises and federal, state and private financial aid favors full-time students, leaving part-timers struggling. The 58-year-old cyclist has biked in dozens of countries and pedaled an estimated 30,000 miles, including 15,000 on his current bike. He is paying all expenses associated with his Aug. 23-Sept. 23 trek.
