A man and a woman remained in custody Tuesday in the Crow Wing County Jail following a shooting outside the Last Turn Saloon Saturday night in downtown Brainerd.
Brainerd Police Chief John Bolduc said a woman got into a verbal dispute with a man in a parking lot near the downtown bar. The suspect was unknown to her. It is unclear what the dispute was about, Bolduc said. The woman entered the Last Turn Saloon and then gunshots were heard outside the bar. The woman exited the bar and discovered her car had been shot several times.
Brainerd police officers got a vehicle and suspect description and searched the area for the suspect. At about 12:35 a.m. Saturday, police officers found the suspect's vehicle and engaged in a vehicle pursuit. A woman was driving the vehicle, which police pursued until they were able to stop the vehicle by the railroad tracks downtown.
The weapon involved in the shooting, a 7.62 mm assault rifle, was recovered in the vehicle.
The woman was arrested for fleeing a police officer. The man was arrested on a variety of charges, including damage to property, reckless discharge of a firearm and obstructing the legal process. Bolduc said police are now investigating the man's criminal record and he may be a felon in possession of a firearm, which would carry an additional charge.
