The recently completed Solarium at the senior center in Brainerd offers a wide-open view of the downtown area. Formerly the old fire hall, the center has been renovated.
30 years ago (1973)
Dutch Elm disease, a problem which has plagued many Minnesota communities since 1961 has arrived in Brainerd. Two trees have fallen to the disease for which there is no cure.
40 years ago (1963)
Mrs. Bill Backen, North Long Lake, had a bear up a tree in her front yard. The visitor came sauntering through her flower patch. The family dog immediately gave chase and the bear scampered up a tree.
60 years ago (1943)
A petition of the municipal band for an appropriation of $200 was granted to help defray the estimated $300 expense incurred by the purchase of new uniforms for a number of girls who have recently joined the organization.
80 years ago (1923)
Tomorrow brings an opportunity to again buy 10,000 "Happy Home Dresses" for $ .98 at Murphy's. "The Store of Quality".
100 years ago (1903)
Uncle John, "Which is right, Willie, I had my boots blackened, or I have had my boots blackened?"
Willie, "I guess neither ain't right, uncle John. You should say "my boots need blackening."
